Trine 5 June 3, 2026
It's a great game
My daughter and I watch tv shows with dinner and after homework. Recently with hockey season, we've been watching the Flyers, and I looked into it for a bit and was offered a good deal on the latest NHL game on PS5 since I owned last year's version. More than 50% off.
Since hockey season ended for the Flyers, we stopped playing the game since it's not as exciting. Still fun but not the same. We would play on the same team. We also have a Switch 2. I wanted to look for a co-op game on PS5 since she was getting used to the controls and it's probably got a much larger library of games at this point. That's a whole other story, because it seems like there are no games for the Switch 2…
I remembered trying the first Trine for like 20 minutes years and years ago. Looking at release dates, it must have been 16 years ago. I remember thinking it was pretty cool with the magic, and I think I felt it would have been better with more people. For whatever reason, I didn't play it again, or after years of playing all sorts of games, never realized that there were 4 sequels released.
So I search for "best co-op PS5 games" and Trine 5 is one of the top results. I remembered my limited Trine experience, checked a Reddit review, and pulled the trigger. It was $30 or so. I told her we had to play, and we fired it up. She wasn't that excited, having known nothing about it!
We sat there on Saturday and played for most of the weekend!
It started off super strong with the one character using a bow and arrow, and using rope to swing between things or build rope bridges. She was hooked. The next character was the brute guy and we weren't as thrilled. But not long. And then the wizard got its turn. This was also amazing.
Then the group got together and we were able to switch between them, and use their combined special abilities to solve increasingly difficult puzzles throughout the game. There were a few enemies that needed to be taught a lesson, and a few pretty difficult boss fights. But the majority of the game is figuring out puzzles!
It's an amazing game for us. Maybe different if I went solo, but playing it with her is super fun. A bonding experience (we have many). We really love, during the story, there will be a time when each character gets their separate side quest, and we're excited to find out what new power they're going to get! And then you have new mechanisms to solve the puzzles with!
Some of the puzzles have been pretty difficult and we had to look them up, and then proceeded to kick ourselves after it was so obvious. It is very rewarding though when you figure it out! Sometimes she did, sometimes I did. Sometimes we would pass through an area somehow, and I'd quip "I doubt that's how they wanted us to solve that!" lol. There are so many laugh out loud moments, mostly in the way we fail :)
Overall, great game! We're almost finished!
