New Backend
July 30, 2005
With some luck, this web page will be running on a new backend in a week or two. While I do find it easier now that I don't have to write ANY SQL to update, insert, delete, or get objects from the database, or create the tables for those objects, I am incredibly lazy, and don't want to have to build many of the web pages that I build when adding a new object type. It's a pain and a waste of time since they all do the same stuff, just with different types of data. Being a programmer in every sense of the word (the good programmers tend to be very good due to incredible laziness, their laziness drives them to think creatively. If I can do a task once that will eliminate a repetitive task later, you could bet the house that I'm going to do it), I decided that the current website is just not easy enough to extend or even maintain. I'll be testing this new software out on my new site,
stringed.org
, which was named because of my love of stringed instruments and classical music sometimes (coincidentally, stringed.com was going for over $1500). It will be my software showcase.
It's one of the more sporadic news entries, I just need to get to work on this stuff because it's a challenge, therefore FUN :) Geek me up in the comments.

If you were truly lazy like myself, you would use an open source ORM solution. That way, you have other people develop it for you for free. Sure, you could contribute back, but then you're not really being lazy. I suggest staying away from ORMs that generate SQL... been there done that, they blow. I can write my own SQL thank you. Let's golf, fag.

1500? Pfft, not only are you getting lazy, now you are getting cheap. I'm up for playing my poor version of what I call golf. You guys will have to come here to play though.

I consider myself lazy because I didn't want to learn another ORM, but I'd rather write one because then I would truly be a master :p It writes SQL in the way that I do, so it's a lot better than others in that respect. I know the plumbing.
11 letters and a punctuation mark are not worthy of $1500... $125 per? No thanks. They have golf courses in Japan? I'll bet they have robots as caddies, then.

No, not robots. As a matter of fact none of the courses I have been at have had caddies at all. It's usually just friends, beer and golf carts. The best way to golf. Well... bags and balls too if we actually golf.
